In the aftermath of California’s landmark statewide ban on plastic bags, other states are scrambling to protect the plastics industry, and citizens’ right to pollute the environment. Enter the Michigan statewide ban on banning plastic bags. That’s right. They banned the act of banning things, thereby taking away the right to make change through grassroots movements at the local level. This is the way that the ban started in California. By the time the people voted for it (twice!), many cities and counties had already taken the initiative on their own.
